JANUARY 2018

WEDNESDAY - 10 JANUARY 2018 (07:30)                                                                Midweek outing: Macassar WWTW, Strand, Contact: Brigid Crewe (082 5700 808)        Take the R300 or N2 towards Somerset West and turn off at Exit 28 (Macassar Road). This is the 1st exit after the Engen One Stop. Turn right, proceed through the traffic lights and after another 500 metres look for an electricity sub-station on the left. Just AFTER this, turn left, crossing the river and park just past the river where we start birding. Please keep cars locked, and travel in a group (for safety reasons). Do not get out of your car and bird on your own - wait for other birders.

THURSDAY - 18 JANUARY 2018 (19:30)                                                                   Speaker: Otto Schmidt                                                                                                  Talk: Birding -  Namibia to North-Eastern Zambia.                                                           In November 2016, Otto and Sandy, John Fincham and Jo Hobbs joined a 9-day 4x4 trip with Bhejane Tours to the remote Liuwa Plains National Park in western Zambia.  First however, they had to get themselves to Katima Mulilo in the far eastern corner of Namibia‚Äôs Zambesi Region (Caprivi Strip).  Taking a slow route up through Namibia with regular birding stops along the way, and then a different slow route back via north-western Botswana, skirting the Okavango Delta, their 5 week adventure produced a wealth of spectacular scenery and exciting birds. A talk not to be missed.

SATURDAY - 20 JANUARY 2018 (07:00)                                                                          Outing: West Coast National Park, Contact: Brian Vanderwalt (082 9999 333)              From Melkbosstrand travel along the R27 West Coast Road. 10km past Yzerfontein is the entrance to the park. Entrance fee payable or use your Wild Cards. Watch website where we will meet - depending on the tide on the day.

CAMP - 23 to 25 FEBRUARY 2018                                                                                  Venue: CAPE AGULHAS - Caravan Park, mContact: Brigid Crewe (082 5700 808)            This area is very popular for birding. We have booked chalets in the caravan park, cost is R250-00 per person sharing for the weekend. A busy weekend is planned at the Southernmost point of Africa.
