We meet at the Durbanville Municipality at 07:30, on the outside of the fence in Oxford Street. For those going directly we meet at about 8:15 at the Visitor's centre parking area, at Koeberg.

BirdLasser is a wonderful app for recording your bird sightings, and submitting data to SABAP2. This joint venture by the TBC and Cape Bird Club will be presented by Henk Nel, from Birdlasser and Ernst Retief, from Birdlife South Africa. Tea & Coffee R10-00. Topic: Eastern Cape Birding Adventure

In March this year Kevin and 7 other Tygerberger's went on a birding trip from Graaff-Reinet, to Mountain Zebra N/P, then on to Hogsback, Port Elizabeth, Nature's Valley and south to Wilderness and surrounds. Special birds of the area were tracked, and a lot of fun was had. Come and enjoy this travel adventure.

SATURDAY 19 AUGUST 2017 (08:00)

Outing: Tinie Versfeld Reserve and Darling Farms

Take the R27 West Coast Road from Melkbosstrand towards Yzerfontein. At the Darling/Yzerfontein crossing, turn right towards Darling. Proceed for 3km to the Tinie Versfeld Reserve (park facing Darling). We also visit 2 or 3 farms in the area. Bring sufficient food for a full day. Remember hats, water and insect repellent.

Travel along Vissershok Road, and proceed to the second parking area (above the winery), where we meet at 08:00. The farm has a good variety of birds.

Speaker: Megan Murgatroyd

Topic: Verreaux's Eagles – Majestic Raptors

Megan will also be talking about the wind turbine collision risk and other insights from the GPS tracking she has done with these birds. She has done a lot of the work in the Cederberg and Sandveld areas. Part of her ongoing research has been sponsored by the Conservation project of the Tygerberg Bird Club. Not to be missed.

Speaker: Gareth Tate

Topic: The wonderful work done by the Birds of Prey Programme. Gareth works for the Endangered Wildlife Trust. So many vultures and raptor numbers are in decline, so it is vital that these birds are protected across borders. With advanced technology so much has been learnt about their territories and distribution across Africa. The talk will be very informative.

FRIDAY 10 NOV. (18:00) to SATURDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2017 (18:00) “BIRDING FUN DAY” – 24 Hours (Members Only)

Come and enjoy this fun event, in groups of 4 persons. We bird in a 100km radius of Durbanville and end with a bring & braai at Pierre & Antoinette le Roux's home. Enter by 19 October 2017. 


Speaker: Peter Slingsby

Topic: Ants of South Africa

Peter is also known for 'Slingsby Maps'. The wonderful journey of the importance of ants in seed dispersal, which in turn germinate and grow is quite incredible. Peter will also be selling his new 'ants of southern Africa' book at the meeting.  The interaction between all natural things i.e. insects/birds and plants will be a nice highlight with which to end our year. We will also vote for the new committee for 2018.
